Postpartum Care

This is YOUR baby and we KNOW you want that baby right there in your arms ALL the time! So…Your midwife will make sure of that! She will do the apgar score, vital signs and exam, your baby tucked skin to skin while you are taking photos and counting toes and fingers!

checkupYou aren’t real sure how nursing will go. No worries! Your midwife will be at your side to offer pointers and encouragement. She will make sure you get a cool drink and check signs that everything is going just right. So many amazing life-long healthy changes are happening during that golden first hour, NOVA Natural Birth Center midwives will help you make this special time a happy memory. Champagne anyone!!

Your midwife is usually ready to leave 2-3 hours after a homebirth. You will likely feel ready to go home from the birth center 3-6 hours after the birth. Not ready to go home? That’s ok, you can stay up to 24 hours if you like!(conditions apply).

As great as it is to have a new baby, every day can be hard. Ugh! Never fear! When you need help, your midwife is there! She will answer her phone 24/7, even for those middle of the night panics. She will come see you at home in a couple days and you are welcome to come to the office anytime if you need more than the usual 2 and 6 week visits.

Your midwife isn’t a Pediatrician but she IS trained to be your healthy baby’s provider until 6 weeks old. She won’t do vaccines or circumcisions, but she will do complete physical exams, weight checks, Newborn and Hearing screens and offers options for Vitamin K, testing for jaundice and major heart conditions.

NOVA Natural Birth Center midwives will make sure you are on the road back to “not-pregnant” and will help minimize any problems and concerns with breastfeeding, healing stitches and postpartum depression. She knows if momma isn’t happy, nobody is happy! The first few weeks after the birth can be difficult, but our midwives will be there to listen and share some helpful resources. You won’t be alone!

Just this week, we accepted into care an amazing first time mom who was very unhappy with her current midwife office. She is 39.5 weeks. Another mom was fed up with how her current OB/GYN was managing her care. She is 35.1 weeks. It is never too late to make a change that may change the way you birth! #KNOWYOUROPTIONS #Midwifery #NOVABirthCenter #InformedChoice #NaturalBirth ... See MoreSee Less

I think I was over 30 weeks when I made the switch from my obgyn 5 years ago - definitely the best decision I made regarding my births.

Love it!

Ha! I told a post-40wks mama to call you a few months back, when her provider was suddenly wanting to change the game plan. I don't know if she ever called, but I switched from an ob/gyn once and was glad I did!

My sister changed providers at 36 weeks and was so thankful she followed her intuition to do so. She ended up having two babies with the new provider who also was their PCP for years!

True, but always preferable to start care as early as possible to get acquainted and build a solid relationship!
