Registered Nurse Birth Assistant (RNBA)

NOVA Natural Birth Center was founded by Certified Professional Midwives (CPM). Although licensed by the state of Virginia, the law does not allow CPM’s to practice their full scope of practice in the area of prescription medications. Virginia Midwives Alliance, the state midwifery organization for CPM’s has appealed to the Board of Medicine to provide for these potentially life-saving medications however they have repeatedly declined. Because this is an important part of safe out of hospital care, you can hire one of our RN birth assistants who can administer medications prescribed by an OB for you. Even though our Certified Nurse Midwives do prescribe and administer medications, you will want to hire the RNBA and we highly recommend it. If you feel like getting involved by writing your legislators, we would be happy to help you.

Meet Our RN Birth Assistants!

Bethanie Mintz, RN, BSN

Bethanie graduated with her BSN nursing degree from George Mason University in 2002 and is a Virginia native. She started her career working as an Emergency Room nurse for 10 years in the northern Virginia and Southern Maryland area. Needing a change, she started working for Kaiser giving medical advice over the phone in 2009 and continues to work there on a very part time basis. After having all four of her children with Peggy and NOVA Natural Birth Center, she was excited to be able to give back to the community and work in an area she loves. She describes this as her “dream job” and loves every moment of being a witness to new life being born. She continues to live in the NOVA area and is very active in her church and community. On a personal note, she homeschools, blogs, crafts, teaches about essential oils and loves all things green, holistic and thrifty. You can follow her or contact her on her blog Green And Grateful.

Bethanie’s Essential Oil Classes are a wealth of information. Please join her at the birth center on the third Monday evening of the month.

Elizabeth Morales, RN, Birth Assistant

Elizabeth (Beth) worked in emergency healthcare for ten years as a medical technician before earning her nursing degree in 2014, during which she completed a fellowship program in both the Labor & Delivery & NICU units at Prince William Hospital. She has spent most of her career as an overnight nurse for babies transitioning to home from the NICU, as well as providing instruction for newborn care, support for parents of twins/multiples, and lactation counseling in the home. Through her experiences with families (and the birth of her own daughter last year) she has become passionate about natural birth and the importance of personalized care during pregnancy, birth, and beyond. Beth is thrilled to be partnered with NOVA Natural Birth Center in providing such an experience to every growing family.

Just this week, we accepted into care an amazing first time mom who was very unhappy with her current midwife office. She is 39.5 weeks. Another mom was fed up with how her current OB/GYN was managing her care. She is 35.1 weeks. It is never too late to make a change that may change the way you birth! #KNOWYOUROPTIONS #Midwifery #NOVABirthCenter #InformedChoice #NaturalBirth ... See MoreSee Less

I think I was over 30 weeks when I made the switch from my obgyn 5 years ago - definitely the best decision I made regarding my births.

Love it!

Ha! I told a post-40wks mama to call you a few months back, when her provider was suddenly wanting to change the game plan. I don't know if she ever called, but I switched from an ob/gyn once and was glad I did!

My sister changed providers at 36 weeks and was so thankful she followed her intuition to do so. She ended up having two babies with the new provider who also was their PCP for years!

True, but always preferable to start care as early as possible to get acquainted and build a solid relationship!
